It's a shame we'll lose the nice, atmospheric surroundings and likely the ability to dig, but it's better than losing the whole event. Any word on whether a public battle is still planned? Is that even allowed by the venue?

I'll need to check... but I think they are working out everything they need. It's almost like starting over again for them.

Hey guys, this sounds like fun. However as I'm new to this sort of thing, I'm just wondering what is entailed? Uniform? Gear and weapons?....or is it simply a meet and greet?

just wondering

thanks

Sean

we all gather up with out gear and set up a display for the public. People walk around and talk to us, as well as ask questions. For the muster we also get to camp just like ww2 (no body is on watch)

Is the age limit strictly 18 to attend this, and I imagine your impression has to be rather flawless to attend this event once you have joined a unit correct?

Thanks, Jake.

To those of you not on the mailing list I received this today:

Dear Southern Ontario Military Muster Participants

Over the past 3 years, the SOMM group has had some pretty spectacular events out at the CTMHV grounds. It saddens us to convey to you that the museum doesn’t want to play anymore. With the cost of the Huey in 2012, we, SOMM have become a financial risk, even though it was the museum who pressed to bring the Huey to the event.

With that said, the SOMM group moved forward to become its own entity, by becoming a Not-for-profit organization, affiliated with the Ontario Historical Society. We were accepted on Nov 28, 2012, and were registered with Ontario business and services on Nov 29, 2012. We now have a Board of Directors, with a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and other directors. You will see these positions on any and all our brochures from now on. Michael Timoshyk, is a director, but now lives in Red Deer, Alberta, and is concentrating on the First Special Service Force Reunion, which is taking up most of him time. We are now accepting membership for our group and sponsorship letters are ready as well.

We had planned to become part of the First Special Service Force Reunion, and went to the City of Windsor. Plans were moving forward until we were informed that there could be NO camping for reenactors on any City property. That stopped everything dead in their tracks.

We looked for other places and finally went to the Town of Essex, spoke with management, checked into an open field, then took our request to Council. On February 4, 2013, the Essex Council gave their approval of support in allowing us to use the old Memorial arena, the grounds behind the new arena, and we were granted permission from the owner of the field to use it for this year only.

We have a new website http://www.militarymuster.ca which is still being created, application forms are also in the works, and will be on the website shortly. A new Brochure has been created for our first bit of advertising of our 4th annual Military Muster.

For those who are not taking part in any 1812 event, please take the time to mark your calendar now for August 10 & 11, 2013 for our next SOMM event. Please come back and join us for 2013.
We are attaching an information package for you. Please feel free to pass this on to any reenactors, vehicle owners, and vendors, as we do not have a complete email list of all who have participated in the past. Check our our brochure and feel free to contact our executive for more information and assistance.
It's time to mark your calendars for another summer play weekend, while continuing to Educate and Honour our Veterans.

At least it isn't so close to woodsman now.

Hey lee

I should be able to make it to this. If I do, do you want me in medic kit or trooper kit. Just wondering, I will bring both but just as a heads up

Thanks boss Smile
