|
|
As I see it, there were a number of options available to the guys trying to heat up some rations;
-Hexamine tablets in a circular tube.
-The 'hot box' fuel tablets, seen more for 5-in-1 and 10-in-1 heating applications.
-Wood Alcohol stoves, canned.
-Makeshift heaters from found materials.
Would any of these options fit for an airborne impression?
I've got piles of hexamine tablets, just no tube. Was going to carry them in a 'hotbox' repro. _________________ 504th PIR, Able Company, First Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. |

Airborne when dropped were supplied with three days of rations and because they would be behind enemy lines would eat their rations cold.
Any other time it was whatever they could muster up. Tablets, Coleman GI stove, makeshift, what have you.
Just don't bring out the BBQ. _________________ 1Lt. Lee Cassar (Re-enactor)

Pictured below - I've got a pile of these stoves. They resemble a period correct "Esbit stove".
It's not perfect, but it's getting there.
Leaves me with a couple options - carry the stove... ...or just the tablets in a repro 'hotbox'.

IMO - If I was a paratrooper such as yourselves, that is one of the first things I would be looking to "borrow" off of one of us Germans.. I would have one stashed wherever I could. |
