The following are some interesting statistics on the so-called "First Supply" of ammunition for various weapons in an infantry division circa 1941. It includes ammunition carried on the man, in vehicles, battalion and regimental transport, and divisional reserve stores. This was the amount, in rounds per weapon, that was calculated to be sufficient for 48 hours of 'normal' (whatever that means) combat operations. Logistical planning and resupply requests to Korps-level command would take place on the basis of these numbers:

Pistol: 12
Rifle: 90
Machine Pistol: 768
Light Machine Gun: 3750
Antitank Rifle: 145
Heavy Machine Gun: 6750
5cm Mortar: 165
8cm Mortar: 140
7.5cm Light Infantry Gun: 180
15cm Heavy Infantry Gun: 80
3.7cm Pak: 220
5cm Pak: 210
10.5cm howitzer: 274
15cm howitzer: 150

Interesting to me is the high number of antitank rifle rounds carried, indeed more than those expected to be fired by the standard infantry rifle. I was pretty impressed that each machine pistol was budgeted to fire 12 full magazines a day. Also, a surprising number of leIG rounds are carried, more than the medium mortar which has a much higher rate of fire.
