Operations Order Assault Group Eben-Emael (Granite) 10.5.1940
Leader of the Assault Group: Oberleutnant Witzig
2i/c: Leutnant Delica

I. COMBAT MISSION
Seize by surprise assault the area of Eben-Emael (Granite), up to the junction of the River Maas and the Albert Canal, making contact with Army forces advancing from the north. Ensure the destruction of Eben-Emael's cuppolas, casemates, and antiaircraft positions. Break all enemy resistance and hold until relieved.

II. SECTION ORDERS

Team 1
1. Strength 1-2-5 (Officers-NCOs-Men) including Deputy Platoon Commander Leutnant Delica.

2. Team Leader: Feldwebel Niedermeier.

3. Glider Pilot: Feldwebel Raschke.

4. Equipment: 6 rifles, 2 machine pistols, 1 flamethrower, 2 50kg explosive charges, 1 flare pistol, 1 25kg case of explosives, 2 12.5kg charges, 2 air signalling flags

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 18 (artillery casemate facing north, two 3m cuppolas and a 3m dome).
b) Destroy Werk 11 (a 2.5m dome), if necessary.
c) Deploy for the defence of Werk 18.
d) Report to Deputy Platoon Commander.

6. In case of failure: takes over the task of Team 2.

7. Orders for Deputy Platoon Commander Leutnant Delica.
a) Supervise the co-operation of Teams 1, 3, and 5, particularly 1 and 3. Designate points of main effort and break-in positions. These should target Werk 12 and Werk 18. Team 5 is available for this purpose. After the break-in release Team 5. The targets must remain out of action for at least 24 hours.
b) Carry out, if required and available, artillery observation for the 8.8cm FlaK.
c) Report to the Platoon Commander (at Werk 19-21)

Team 2
1. Strength 3-5.

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Maier, Deputy: Pionier Meier.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Brendenbeck.

4. Equipment: 5 rifles, 1 machine gun, 1 machine pistol, 3 12.5kg charges, 3 explosive tubes (Bangalore torpedoes? Pole charges?), 1 explosives case, 1 flare pistole, 5 3kg charges.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 24(a 6.5m dome, probably with a gun).
b) Take out Werk 26(Artillery casemate, facing south, two 4.5m cupolas). Put out of action. Prevent them from interfering with action on the roof of the fort.
c) Seize and defend 24 or 26.
d) Report to Platoon Commander (at Werk 19-21)

6. In case of failure by Team 5, Team 2 takes over their task, primarily the suppression of enemy Flak from the fort's roof as first reserve. In case of failure by Team 8, Team 2 takes over Team 8's task as the second reserve.

7. If Team 2 fails in its task, Team 8 takes over.

8. Team 2's machine gun supports Team 5 while it withdraws from Werk 29's Flak battery.

Team 3
1. Strength: 2-5.

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Arent, Deputy: Gefreiter Merz.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Sapper.

4. Equipment: 4 rifles, 1 machine gun, 1 machine pistol, 3 50kg charges, 1 gestr. charge (anyone know what this might be?), 6 3kg charges, 3 explosive tubes, 1 explosives case, 1 6m wire (could be signal antenna, alternatively a pole to fly the flags mentioned in d), below), 1 flare gun, 3 12.5kg charges.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 12 (artillery casemat, facing north).
b) Knock out Werk 10 (Observation tower for 6.5m gun cupola).
c) Enter Werk 12 and defend it. Report to Deputy Platoon Commander with Team 1.
d) Signal the success of the battle by two Swastika flags at Werk 12.

6. In case of failure Team 9 assumes these tasks.

Team 4
1. Strength: 2-6

2. Team Leader: Feldwebel Wenzel, Deputy: Obergefreiter Polzin.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Bräutigam.

4. Equipment: 5 rifles, 1 machine gun, 1 machine pistol, 2 50kg charges, 2 12.5kg charges, 3 explosive tubes, 1 flare pistol, 1 6kg gestr. charge, 10 3kg charges.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 19, 20, and 21 (Expected to be infantry positions, 4-5m cupolas unlikely). Prevent enemy interference from the north and south. Team 11 is subordinated for this purpose.
b) Break in and defend (the assigned targets).
c) Make contact with the Platoon Commander who will be with Team 11.
d) Feldwebel Wenzel goes to Oberleutnant Witzig and Leutnant Delica and lays out air recognition signals. If Oberleutnant Witzig cannot be reached, take orders from Leutnant Delica.

6. In case of failure, Team 11 and then Team 9 assumes these tasks.

Team 5
1. Strength 3-5.

2. Team Leader: Feldwebel Haug, Deputy: Unteroffizier Grzechza.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Lange.

4. Equipment: 7 rifles, 1 machine pistol, 1 flamethrower, 2 50kg charges, 3 12.5kg charges, 10 3kg charges, 1 explosives case, 1 8kg gestr. charge, 1 flare pistol.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 29 (probably FlaK) by surprise attack.
b) Take out Werk 23. Prevent enemy action on the rooft of the fort and artillery firing to the north (the risk of this is negligible if enemy observation to the north and east is prevented).
c) Hold a favourable position at Werk 29, or joint Team 1 at Werk 18. Once there, take further orders from the Deputy Platoon Commander. Report there.

6. In case of failure, Team 2 and then Team 8 assume these tasks.

Team 6
1. Strength: 3-5

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Harlos, Deputy: Unteroffizier Grams.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Ziller.

4. Equipment: 5 rifles, 1 machine gun, 1 machine pistol, 3 explosive tubes, 1 explosives case, 4m wire (again, not sure what this is. Signals antenna?), 1 6kg gestr. charge, 2 50kg charges, 3 12.5kg charges, 6 3kg charges, 1 flare pistol.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 14 and 15 (Werk 16 similar to Werk 24 - large gun cupola on top, 50m north. Werk 15 is Probably two or three other small cupola with effect to the north. Werk 14 is probably a machine gun position).
b) Enter and hold the positions. Contact is made with the Platoon Leader (at 19-21).
c) In case of failure by Team 6, Team 7 takes over its tasks. In case of failure by Team 7, Team 6 takes over its tasks.

Team 7
1. Strength: 2-6

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Heinemann, Deputy: Obergefreiter Pessum.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Scheidhauer.

4. Equipment: 6 rifles, 2 machine pistols, 1 flamethrower, 3 50kg charges, 10 3kg charges, 3 explosive tubes, 1 flare pistol, 1 gestr. charge, 2 12.5kg charges.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 16 (infantry position with 5m artillery cupola).
b) Make contact with the Platoon Commander in Werk 19-21.
c) Prepare Werk 16 for defence, stop enemy counterattacks from the north.

6. In case of failure by Team 6, Team 7 assumes its tasks.

7. In case of failure by Team 7, Team 6 assumes its tasks.

Team 8
1. Strength: 3-5

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Unger, Deputy: Unteroffizier Else.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Distelmeier.

4. Equipment: 4 rifles, 1 machine gun, 2 machine pistols, 2 50kg charges, 3 12.5kg charges, 3 explosive tubes, 1 explosives case, 6 3kg charges, 1 flare pistol.

5: Mission:
a) Take out Werk 31 (a 4m cupola). Prevent enemy action on the fort roof.
b) Knock out any weapons or combat systems in Werk 25.
c) Enter and hold a central location in Werk 31, or join Team 2 at Werk 26.
d) Report to the Platoon Commander (Werk 19-21)

6. In case of failure by Team 2 or Team 5, Team 8 takes over their tasks. Combating enemy FlaK (Team 5 - Werk 29) is particularly urgent. Machine gun supports Team 5 as it knocks out Flak position 29. Be careful not to hit our own people.

Team 9
1. Strength: 3-5.

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Neuhaus, Deputy: Unteroffizier Schlosser.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Schulz.

4. Equipment: 7 rifles, 1 machine pistol, 1 flamethrower, 3 50kg charges, 3 12.5kg charges, 5 3kg charges, 3 explosive tubes, 1 gestr. charge, 1 flare pistol.

5. Mission:
a) Take out Werk 13 (machine gun or antitank position). Prevent hostile action on northern tip of the fort, also to the southwest, to permit action against Werk 15 and 16.
b) Defend Werk 13 from a convenient location, otherwise push toward 4 (werk 19, 20, 21).
c) Report to the Platoon Commander (Werk 19-21).

6. In case of failure by Team 3, Team 9 assumes their tasks.

7. In case of failure by Team 9, Team 11 assumes their tasks.

Team 10
1. Strength: 3-5 (Platoon Headquarters Section)

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Hübel.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Kraft.

4. Equipment: 6 rifles, 2 machine pistols, 3 50kg charges, 2 12.5kg charges, 10 3kg charges, 1 air signalling flag, 1 'B' type radio in 2 loads, 1 flare gun, 3 explosive tubes.

5. Mission:
a) Team 10 puts itself at the disposal of the Platoon Commander between Werk 26 and Werk 19-21.
b) Radio is brought under cover in Werk 19-21, if no direction of the bombardment of enemy held Werk is possible.
c) The air signalling flag is placed according to the orders of the Platoon Commander.

6. In case of failure by Team 2, Team 10 takes over its tasks without special orders.

Team 11
1. Strength: 1-2-4 (including Platoon Commander Oberleutnant Witzig).

2. Team Leader: Unteroffizier Schwarz, Deputy: Obergefreiter Johnsen.

3. Glider Pilot: Unteroffizier Pilz.

4. Equipment: 4 rifles, 1 machine gun, 2 machine pistols, 1 gestr. charge, 3 explosive tubes, 3 50kg charges, 1 4m wire (?), 10 3kg charges, 2 12.5kg charges, 1 flare pistol, 2 explosives cases.

5. Mission:
a) Team is subordinated to Unteroffizier Wenzel for the elimination of Werk 19, 20, and 21.
b) In the event of failure by Teams 4 or 9, Team 11 assumes those tasks independently.
c) Team 11 then forms the reserve at the northern tip of the fort, under the orders of the Platoon Commander at 19-21.
