Hey guys,

I'm just wondering if it it possible to remove the canteen strap from the German canteens? I took the strap off, but the nail on the top of the lid of the canteen is holding in a metal ring that secures the strap there. How do I get this off?

Im talking about this part:

This nail holds in a metal ring which I can not get off.

I just put a little cut in the leather where it holds it on, done and done.

A cut in the leather? Your's did not come with a metal ring embedded in the leather?

I'm trying to take the old one off and put the new one on, but right now, the old one wont come off and I don't see how the new one can go on.

Yup, cut the leather and then it was onto the metal reinforcement ring.
Cut and cut, should have specified.

Mine just dangles, the canteen cup hides it though.

Instead of messing around with trying to replace mine, I just bought a whole new lid with strap attatched. Much easier.

Damn, wish I saw that before I bought the strap.
